Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think it wouldn’t be a good idea for my magazine to be distributed within the same institution as magazines such as Vibe or source as it would mean my magazine wouldn’t sell a lot as it would be in competition with other magazines with reputation. For this reason I think that Conde Nast publications would distribute my music magazine, this is because Conde Nast’s media products are more aimed at more middle aged and working class adults with particular interests. Conde Nast do not produce hip-hop magazines so therefore I think it would be successful as it would attract audiences that they’ve never appealed to and would give them an increase in profit and the new audience may be interested in some of their other products, all this could possibly boost popularity in the publish house.

Conde Nast publishes magazines that are associated with house, fashion, travel and many more. They publish for popular magazines such as vogue, which are normally read by middle class people with keen interests, if my magazine is to be introduced to this publishing house then it would introduce the audience in which my magazine is aimed at which is urban teenagers of theblack ethnic minority, which Conde Nast doesn’t appeal to

.

If you look below the people(models) that usually feature on the front of the magazines Conde Nast publish we can instantly see who the magazine is aimed at and what kind of people would read it.

Conde Nast do not publish in urban hip-hop magazine and if my magazine is introduced into this publishing house, then the company’s revenue could possibly increase as they have gained a new audience, this is because this would be the only music magazine that they are publishing for meaning there is minimal competition. Conde Nast publishes their magazine specifically at a range of niche audience taking into consideration that within the niche markets there are wide audiences, my magazine would fit in with this strategy of publishing as it is targeted at people who specifically listen to hip-hop. Also Conde Nast have published all different genre’s of magazines successfully so I think that my music magazine would be a success.

Another reason why I would like Conde Nast to distribute my magazine is because they have various methods of promotion as my magazine is not only new to the publishing house but to the music magazine market as a whole, my magazine could be promoted online. I would distribute my magazine on an introductory scheme by issuing them to youth clubs as my audience will consist in that environment. I think my magazine would be sold at local newsagents and supermarkets such as Tesco and Asda as this could be seen as a following the convention of the distribution of a normal music magazine, It would be a sufficient way of customers buying the magazine. I believe that if my magazine is successful enough it would not only be sold nationally but worldwide.
