As I wanted generous gender wise I portrayed my models as a music rap group that consisted of males and females. By doing this I hoped to reel in my target audience. Also I intentionally used attractive models in order for the opposite gender to be attracted to the magazine as a whole. As my magazine was to be sold nationally I used my models were British which you don’t normally see, this hopefully made the reader think and see what the magazine is all about.
As my double page spread was about the introduction of a new music group, this attracted audiences as my magazine claims that group has a number one single. My eye catching cover lines and sub cover lines were another addition in attracting my audience. Music magazines use not only their models to attract their audience they also use cover lines in which I decided to do also.
Vibe magazine use conventional colours whereas I used colourful eye grabbing colours they also use large font sizes so its isn’t difficult to read. They also mix the content within their front cover which what I did also.
As you can see I used capital letters and similar colours to the background, I used colloquial English such as “swagger” as it a word that is known nationally especially by the group my magazine was targeted at. although the content was in standard English as if it was read by some one older than my target audience it could be understood as English is universal, this could be a key factor if my magazine is to be distributed worldwide. Another technique that I used was adding effect to the image, with many hip hop magazines the image of the model is not altered but I added a stroke around it and used a filter effect called cut out, I did this in order to attract my audience as this is not usually seen in terms of clash of colours and effect.
Props such as headphones and jackets were told to be used by the models. Headphones specifically as teenagers nowadays do nearly everything involving music whether it be working out, on a bus or even doing coursework. This was used in hope that the reader/audience would be attracted. With my model in the middle he was told to wear red as normally with magazines the models clothing matches text and /or background in order to attract.
Here is an example of the vibe magazine attracting their audience by their font colour being blue matching Kanye West’s jacket collar. With my magazine I did the opposite which could be seen as challenging conventions as I used different colours for all my models in order to attract and connote that they are all different even though they are one group.
.

I also used different colour fonts in the group’s names’ in order to attract and as their names are spelt with a hint of slang you could say I address them in very informal way. Names brands was also a huge factor as people are attracted and gain positive impressions of people that wear name brands, my model to the far right (Diddy D) is wear a polo by Ralph Lauren in which can attract my audience.
